Ron Springs Scholarship Fund
Ron’s impact over the years has been immeasurable, shaping countless lives through his dedication and passion. There’s nothing more special to Ron than seeing more campers come through our gates each summer. This will not only honor Ron’s legacy, but will also help provide for more campers and families in need for years to come!
Here are three ways to help kids and families experience camp:
Here are two ways you can help support scholarships for campers…
Become a Planter
Sadly, there are so many families who cannot afford the cost of camp tuition. It is our desire that these children have the opportunity to experience the transformational power of two weeks at Ridgecrest Summer Camps. We are looking for partners who can help us give this gift to children and parents who would miss out on something that has impacting so many for decades. Please join us in bringing more kids to camp who would not get to have this life changing experience. Become a Planter today.
A Planter is someone that commits to giving one full tuition each year for one, three, five, or eight years. You are planting seeds in a child’s life that will grow at camp. Seeds of faith. Seeds of courage. Seeds of lifelong discipleship.
We are asking friends like you to prayerfully consider committing to sponsor a camper’s full tuition for:
- 1 Year – Help provide children their first experience at Ridgecrest Camps!
- 3 Years – Help campers as they deepen their friendships, grow in their understanding of who God is, and who they are.
- 5 Years – Help campers as they move from elementary age to middle school age, a big transition for every child.
- 8 Years – Help support children during their entire camp journey!
Each of these levels represents a milestone at camp. Your multi-year commitment as a Planter ensures that children will continue to experience the love of Christ at Ridgecrest summer camps, no matter their family’s financial circumstances.
Ridgecrest will process these commitments annually on February 1st in honor of National Camp Ridgecrest and Camp Crestridge Day. If your pledge is unable to be processed that day please email us at impact@ridgecrestnc.com
Ridgecrest will recognize those who make a commitment with a display at each camp
Note: The amount of a full scholarship will increase year over year.
Join The Sequoia Society
The Sequoia Society is made up of supporters who give toward our newly formed scholarship endowment. Our immediate goal is to reach one million dollars, once this goal is reached, we will begin using interest income for scholarships! Our longterm goal is to be able to completely fund the needs of every camper who needs assistance coming to camp. We will be honoring Sequoia Society members with a special display at both Camp Ridgecrest and Camp Crestridge once their commitment is complete.
Thank you for prayfully considering joining our Sequia Society. We are so excited to annouce the creation of our scholarship endowment. This endowment was created to provide scholarship help to every student that applies. You will be leaving a legacy that will impact children for generations to come.
A commitment to the Sequoia Society will help kids to attend camp forever! We can get to the initial $1M goal if:
- 4 supporters each give $75,000
- 7 supporters each give $150,000
- 4 supporters each give $250,000
- 1 supporter giving $1,000,000
These commitments may be fulfilled over a maximum period of three years.
A gift of any size to the scholarship endowment is appreciated and will be invested according to our investment policy. We will only be recognizing those who commit to a gift starting at $75,000 with our display.

Like so many college kids looking for a meaningful way to spend their summer, Ron Springs was introduced to Ridgecrest Summer Camps while being recruited by the former Director, Rick Johnson. He must have made a strong first impression because Ron was placed in the challenging and coveted Cabin 1 counselor role, responsible for the youngest boys in camp. Only the best were given this opportunity.
Ron soon earned a leadership role, leading other counselors, and then was recruited once again by Rick to stay on in a full-time role, helping to ensure the future of the camps.
Ron became a household name, spending most of the winter months traveling the Southeast, visiting campers and introducing new families to a life-changing experience that would provide childhood memories and shape their children into godly men and women. From churches to living rooms, Ron would share the vision for a summer experience that would encourage growth, provide challenges, and inspire a deeper trust in God. Young boys and girls would see pictures and hear stories of adventures while dreaming of two weeks away from home in the mountains of North Carolina. There was something about Ron’s calming presence that allowed parents to entrust their sons and daughters to this man and his team of college students. With his giant smile and jolly laugh, Ron has been winning the trust of others for 50 years.
Camp has changed and evolved under Ron’s leadership, but the mission remains the same — Impacting Lives for God’s Glory through Discipleship and Adventure. Generations of campers will tell similar versions of the same story — stories packed with adventures found in the rolling mountains of Ridgecrest, North Carolina.
For many of these years, Ron was the lone full-time team member, holding the ship together throughout the winter months as camp’s mission continued forward.
Ron’s leadership grew our full-time team from one to eleven. More importantly, our camps’ attendance has grown from less than 400 campers to almost 4,000.
Under Ron’s guidance, Ridgecrest has developed Family Camp, including Mother-Daughter and Father-Son weekends. He has seen both properties completely remodeled and refreshed while the quality of our summer staff team and focus on our mission has thrived.
Fifty years is an almost unheard-of tenure at a single post. It requires commitment, dedication, loyalty, and tenacity. Few leaders have the patience and humility to remain consistent through so much change and growth. Fifty years. That’s over 3,750 canteens, 200 sockwars, 320 Council Rings, 700 campfires, and 100,000 campers. The impact is significant and far-reaching. The ripple effect of these life changes is incalculable.
